Police Investigate Waterloo Restaurant 'Dine-and-Dash' Dispute After Viral Video

Officers are examining a making-off-without-payment report alongside a counter-harassment claim after staff filmed the customer at a nearby station.

Overview

  • Merseyside Police said they were called to South Road, Waterloo, at 8.25pm on 21 February over an alleged making off without payment, with enquiries ongoing.
  • The customer, 28-year-old Mollie Birch, denies leaving without paying, says she settled the bill in cash, and says the online clip left her publicly humiliated.
  • Rancho Steakhouse staff allege a £59.25 bill was unpaid, say they followed her to Waterloo station, and posted a video that has drawn about 1.2 million views.
  • CCTV reviewed by the Liverpool Echo shows the woman leaving the restaurant and running down the street as two staff follow, which she says was her rushing for a train.
  • Police confirmed a counter-allegation of harassment and advised businesses not to pursue suspects or share footage online because it can jeopardise investigations.
