Overview
- A group of two men and two women reportedly attacked a passenger on an Arriva bus in Whitby, repeatedly punching the victim before the group was ejected when the vehicle stopped outside Whitby Golf Club.
- Police say a woman was assaulted near a Church Street bus stop and suffered a head injury with bruising to her arms and legs; a man in his 50s was arrested in connection with that incident and has been released on bail while enquiries continue.
- North Yorkshire Police have opened formal investigations into both incidents and are asking the public for information to help identify those involved.
- Officers are particularly keen to trace a man and woman who were walking a dog and may have intervened, and they have given reference numbers for tipoffs: 12260096696 for the bus assault and 12260095607 for the Church Street assault.
