Police Hunt Motorcyclist After Child Seriously Injured in South Shields

A released description aims to identify the rider as investigators seek CCTV or witness footage to progress the suspected hit-and-run inquiry.

Overview

  • A motorcycle struck a woman and a four-year-old boy on Sea Road near Ocean Beach Pleasure Park shortly before 3.20pm on Saturday, and the bike then left the scene.
  • The boy sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital, while the woman in her 30s received treatment for minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.
  • Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit has opened a full investigation and asked anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact officers, quoting reference NP-20260627-0698.
  • Police described the machine as a petrol-powered road bike not showing a registration plate and released a description of the rider wanted as a white male of thick build wearing a sky-blue T-shirt, dark shorts, black ankle socks and red trainers.
  • Two other motorcyclists initially mentioned have been located and ruled out, and the family have urged the rider or anyone with information to come forward as investigators review local CCTV and witness accounts.
