Overview
- The attack, reported at about 9pm Monday, unfolded inside a Todd Street unit in Warrawong where a man was doused in petrol and set alight.
- He received help from residents, paramedics and a helicopter crew before a flight to Royal North Shore Hospital, where staff said Tuesday morning he was serious but stable.
- Police say the offender ran off before officers arrived, and detectives set up a crime scene and asked the public to contact Crime Stoppers.
- Fire and Rescue NSW reported no active fire inside the unit, only smoke and light structural damage that crews ventilated.
- One outlet reported the attack was targeted and that about half the man's body was burned, a claim not confirmed by other reports.
