Police Footage of Oxford Murderer Saying He’d Miss GTA 6 Goes Viral After Sentencing

Released by Thames Valley Police around the hearing, the clip followed a life sentence with a minimum term of 16 years plus one month for the murder of Rachael Vaughan.

Overview

  • Robert Richens, 35, pleaded guilty in December and on February 6 was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years and one month.
  • Bodycam and court-played custody video, along with audio of his 999 call, were later shared online showing him sobbing that he would miss Grand Theft Auto VI.
  • Police said Richens made no attempt to help Vaughan and contacted officers only when he had nowhere else to turn after the attack.
  • Judge Ian Pringle KC said Richens subjected Vaughan, 40, to a brutal assault in her Abingdon home, causing multiple major rib fractures and a traumatic brain injury.
  • Prosecutors told the court Richens stayed at the scene for about five hours cleaning and was heard saying, “I could have dismantled it.”
