Overview

  • Counter Terrorism Policing London opened a fast‑moving inquiry after intelligence flagged a potential threat to the UK Ijtima gathering at Shrubland Hall that drew about 15,000 people.
  • Officers arrested 12 people on 12–13 July and a 13th on 16 July, carrying out searches of homes and vehicles across several English regions and seizing over 35 digital devices.
  • By 18 July seven men were released without charge and another was freed on bail with strict conditions as the seven‑day detention window under the Terrorism Act expired for many suspects.
  • A 42‑year‑old man has been charged with possession of extendable batons and a stun gun after items recovered in searches, and police say those weapons charges are not believed to be connected to the suspected threat.
  • Investigations remain live and coordinated with regional policing units and Suffolk Constabulary, and authorities have urged the public to report concerns while reassuring the Muslim community that enquiries continue.
