Police File FIR Against 500 After Mob Injures 47 Officials at Gujarat Forest Nursery

Investigators report no arrests in a case linked to a dispute over plantation work near Ambaji.

  • The Ambaji police station registered an FIR against around 500 people and named 26 suspects under attempt to murder, dacoity and damage to public property provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
  • The attack occurred on December 13 at Padaliya village in Danta taluka as a joint team of police, forest and revenue officials conducted nursery and plantation work on Survey Number 9.
  • Officials said a crowd of roughly 500 people targeted about 50 personnel using stones, bows and arrows and other weapons, seriously injuring Inspector R B Gohil and an Assistant Conservator of Forests.
  • A total of 47 officials were injured, with 36 treated at Ambaji Civil Hospital and 11 referred to Palanpur Civil Hospital, and authorities described their conditions as stable.
  • Police used teargas to disperse the crowd, deployed additional forces and opened an investigation that includes references in the FIR and a forest department release to a group called AC Bharat Sangathan, with earlier incidents reported on December 5 and 11.
