Police Dismantle 1,100-Plant Cannabis Farm in North Hesse

The judge-ordered detention reflects the police view of a rare large-scale find in the district.

Overview

  • Police raided a rented house in Spangenberg’s Metzebach on Tuesday, finding a two-floor indoor grow with about 1,100 flowering plants.
  • Officers arrested two men, aged 34 and 48, whom a Kassel judge ordered into pre-trial detention pending further investigation.
  • Investigators also seized several vacuum bags holding roughly eight kilograms of marijuana packaged for sale.
  • The site was fitted with rows of lamps, heaters, fans and a ventilation system, and rooms were sealed from outside view.
  • Police estimate the plants could have yielded at least 110 kilograms worth about €1.1 million, calling it the largest cannabis find in the Schwalm-Eder district in years.
