Overview
- A 30-year-old man was detained in Iztacalco on Thursday after a shopkeeper in colonia Herón Proal reported he had demanded protection money, a practice known locally as cobro de piso.
- Policía Bancaria e Industrial officers tracked and intercepted the suspect on avenida Centenario in colonia Valentín Gómez Farías and secured cash and a blue motorcycle during a preventive search.
- In a separate response, PBI officers in Tlalpan detained a 70-year-old woman at a supermarket on avenida Insurgentes after store Protección de Activos staff accused her of removing merchandise valued at 47,393 pesos.
- In both cases officers read detainees their constitutional rights, collected physical evidence and transferred the individuals and seized items to the Ministerio Público, which will open investigative files and determine their legal situation.
- The interventions show the routine coordination between citizen complainants or private store security and the SSC’s PBI to address cobro de piso and retail theft, issues that directly affect small merchants and commercial loss-prevention efforts.
