Overview

  • Police in The Hague reported an explosion at D66’s headquarters Thursday night that damaged the entrance and windows and caused no injuries.
  • Officers detained a suspect within about an hour of the blast and opened a criminal investigation, with the motive not yet confirmed.
  • Prime Minister Rob Jetten, who leads D66, called it a cowardly act of intimidation and said the device was a fireworks-based bomb pushed through the letterbox.
  • About 30 people, including members of the party’s youth wing, were inside at the time, and several were left in shock though unhurt.
  • This is the second time in nine months the offices have been targeted after windows were smashed during an anti-immigration protest last year.
