Police Crack Gangs Behind Dozens of Two-Wheeler Thefts in Thane and Chandigarh

The recoveries point to coordinated theft rings that exploit weak locks and fake plates to flip bikes for quick resale.

Overview

  • Thane Crime Branch Unit-II arrested three suspects in Bhiwandi and recovered 58 stolen motorcycles, helping detect 41 cases across Thane, Bhiwandi and Badlapur.
  • Investigators say the trio targeted bikes without handle locks and used mechanic skills to start engines without keys.
  • Police tracked and recovered motorcycles sold across Maharashtra districts, including Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Latur, Jalna, Nashik, Solapur and Mumbai.
  • In a separate sweep, Chandigarh Police arrested four alleged gang members and recovered nine two-wheelers with fake number plates that were resold in Ferozepur and Moga for about ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 each.
  • Some recoveries matched e-FIRs in Chandigarh and Punjab, and courts placed several suspects in police or judicial custody as cross-jurisdiction probes continue to find more accomplices and bikes.
