Police Charge 21-Year-Old in Killing of Fort Worth Club Security Guard

An arrest affidavit outlines a close-range attack outside an after-hours club under community scrutiny.

Overview

  • Security guard Dominique Coleman, 38, was shot multiple times outside H & J Hamburgers after leaving Club New Start in southeast Fort Worth during a confrontation early Sunday, police said.
  • An arrest affidavit obtained Monday by CBS Texas says suspect Dadrian Freeman shot Coleman in the back of the head and also shot a 35-year-old woman who is expected to survive.
  • Detectives say they traced a suspect vehicle, executed a search warrant in Dallas County, and arrested Freeman, 21, who now faces murder and aggravated assault charges.
  • Police also arrested his father, 46-year-old Dedrian Freeman, on a felon-in-possession charge and noted a parole warrant, and they jailed his brother, 22-year-old Dedrian Freeman Jr., on a Collin County warrant for felony deadly conduct.
  • Community organizers called for the city to close Club New Start, while investigators continue the case and have not explained how they identified the suspect.
