Overview
- Regional cyber units in Gurugram, Surat, Navi Mumbai and Indore made arrests and filed FIRs between Monday and Wednesday after tracing large fraud receipts to mule accounts.
- Gurugram police arrested six suspects in a Rs 2.65–2.68 crore investment scam and seized 90 ATM cards, 33 SIMs, laptops, cheque books and a passport with Dubai stamps that investigators say point to overseas links.
- Navi Mumbai registered an FIR after tracing about Rs 11.5 crore to three bank accounts that were linked to roughly 1,450 complaints and which Maharashtra Cyber found had routed nearly Rs 18.8 crore in total.
- Probes show a common method: fraudsters use fake trading apps, parcel/customs pretexts and social media to dupe victims while aggregators or agents supply or open hundreds of bank accounts and deliver ATM kits for commissions.
- Investigations continue with forensic analysis of devices, SIMs and bank records to identify higher‑level operatives and recover funds, and police have warned the public not to share bank details or rent out accounts.
