Police Break Up Bronx Street Takeover, Arrest 4 and Cite 7

City leaders plan to press the NYPD on consistent enforcement next month.

Overview

  • Officers responding to drag racing in Eastchester around 2:30 a.m. Sunday moved in at Hollers and Pinkney avenues and arrested four people while issuing seven summonses.
  • Police said three of those arrested were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, and a fourth faces forged instrument, illegal magazine, and unlicensed driving charges.
  • Witnesses reported about a dozen vehicles heading to the meet-up, but many scattered when police arrived.
  • The NYPD says it is using an aggressive deterrence plan and reported seizing 20 cars and issuing more than 100 summonses during the last weekend in April.
  • Following high-profile Queens takeovers that involved fires and assaults, Council Public Safety Chair Oswald Feliz scheduled a hearing with Commissioner Jessica Tisch for next month to review the response.
