Police Book Driver After Mixer Truck Kills Girl, 8, in Mumbai’s Sakinaka

Police have booked the driver under the new criminal code pending a full inquiry.

  • The crash, which occurred Friday around 6 pm near Khanna Estate in Sakinaka, killed eight-year-old Ahana Shaikh and left her father with minor injuries.
  • A concrete mixer truck swerved left and struck their scooter, causing both to fall, and the truck’s rear tyre ran over the child.
  • Local residents stopped the truck and helped rush the pair to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where doctors declared the girl dead on arrival.
  • Police identified the driver as Sirajul Islam, 27, and booked him under sections 106, 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, India’s new criminal code, plus Motor Vehicles Act provisions.
  • Officers served Islam a notice to appear under the new procedure code and let him go while the investigation continues.
