Overview
- Guardia Civil and Policía Nacional detained six men in Alfarp accused of stealing railway copper with firearms, and five have been remanded while the sixth was held as the alleged buyer with €10,000.
- The thefts removed more than 4,000 meters of signaling cable between September 2025 and March 2026 and led to 76 train cancellations, 619 delays, and over 12,000 minutes of lost service time.
- Officers recovered 13 large copper reels and 3,000 hangers worth about €200,000, along with a stolen truck valued near €30,000, €12,000 in cash, and two cars used in the crimes.
- In a separate case, Guardia Civil arrested three suspects for February gas‑station robberies in L'Alqueria de la Comtessa and Real de Gandía, where a masked person used a large hammer to seize the takings, and one suspect is now in prison.
- Cutting signaling cable can disable track circuits and sensors that tell trains when a line is safe, so operators halt movement for checks, which cascades into delays and cancellations for commuters and freight.
