Police Arrest Diego Sartori in Santa Ana Drive-Thru Stabbing Death

Detectives describe a confrontation before the attack, with motive still under review.

Overview

  • Santa Ana police said they identified 35-year-old Diego Sartori of Anaheim as the suspect and located him at a Costa Mesa motel on Dec. 10.
  • Authorities announced Sartori’s arrest on Dec. 11 and said he was booked at the city jail on suspicion of murder.
  • The victim was identified as Christopher Abrego, 43, of Bakersfield, who was found wounded in the Pollo Campero drive-thru after a 4:40 p.m. call on Dec. 6.
  • Investigators say an altercation preceded the stabbing and that Abrego and the suspect did not know each other; a woman with Sartori was not involved, according to police.
  • The homicide investigation continues as detectives review evidence and witness information; police said Sartori has prior arrests largely tied to drugs.
