Police Appeal in Search for Missing Skipper, 75, After Boat Found Wrecked on Hayle Beach

Police are seeking public help after earlier sea and air searches found no one.

Overview

  • The sailing vessel Green Goddess was reported broken up on the shoreline at Mexico Towans, Hayle, at about 8:05am on March 6 with no one on board.
  • Coastguard Rescue Teams from St Ives, Portreath and Penzance, two St Ives RNLI lifeboats and an HM Coastguard helicopter searched the area.
  • Searches did not locate anyone and HM Coastguard stood down its response at about 2:30pm pending new information.
  • Devon and Cornwall Police named the missing skipper as David Fretwell, 75, and issued a public appeal for information.
  • Police released a description and asked anyone with sightings to call 999 quoting log 247 06/03/26, while reports suggest he may have reached the St Ives area on March 4.
