Police Appeal After Southampton Ferry Terminal Crash Leaves Man Critical and Woman Seriously Injured

Investigators are seeking dashcam footage as the 69-year-old driver is released under investigation.

Overview

  • Two pedestrians in their 60s were hit by a Medina Food Services lorry leaving Red Funnel’s Town Quay terminal at 10.46am Friday, police said.
  • The man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the woman is being treated for serious injuries after air ambulance medics gave care at the scene and rode with him to hospital.
  • A 69-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and has been released under investigation as Medina Food Services conducts its own internal review.
  • The crash closed Town Quay for hours, blocking access to Terminal 1 and stopping vehicles from boarding in Southampton until about 3pm, though foot and cycle crossings ran.
  • Detectives are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from the area to help reconstruct what led up to the impact.
