Pokémon Go Overhauls Megas With Super Mega Raids and Link Charges Ahead of Feb. 28 Rollout

Niantic says the high-difficulty format is a social driver, tying entry to a currency earned through community actions.

Overview

  • Super Mega Raids feature an enraged state where bosses raise damage-reducing shields that each trainer must break once with a powered Mega attack.
  • Lobbies require at least eight players, and every participant must include a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in their battle party.
  • Entry uses the new Link Charges resource: in-person lobbies accept a Premium Battle Pass or Link Charges, while remote joins require both a Remote Raid Pass and Link Charges.
  • Niantic is previewing the mode at Pokémon Go Tour stops in Tainan and Los Angeles this weekend, with a global launch set for Feb. 28 during Go Tour: Kalos – Global.
  • Link Charges are earned through community check-ins, gifting, and weekly challenges, a web-based map will help players find Super Mega Raids, and successful clears grant bigger rewards plus a new Super Max Mega Level.
