Pogacar Claims Third Straight Liège–Bastogne–Liège as Teenager Seixas Emerges

A 19-year-old rival staying with the world champion on the steep climbs hints at a new challenger to the sport’s dominant rider.

Overview

  • Pogacar won solo on Sunday at cycling’s Monument Liège–Bastogne–Liège, finishing 45 seconds ahead of 19-year-old Paul Seixas for a third straight title and fourth overall.
  • The decisive split came when Pogacar attacked on the Côte de la Redoute about 35 kilometers from the line, with only Seixas able to follow before he was dropped on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons roughly 13 to 14 kilometers out.
  • A crash soon after the start split the field and sent a 52-rider group with Remco Evenepoel up the road by about 3 minutes 30 seconds before it was caught around 94 to 95 kilometers from the finish; Evenepoel later placed third, about 1 minute 18 seconds back.
  • Pogacar dedicated the victory to former teammate Cristian Camilo Munoz, who died days earlier after complications from a crash and a difficult-to-control infection, according to team statements.
  • Pogacar praised Seixas as a future force, while the teenager’s Tour de France debut remains undecided and his contract runs with Decathlon–CMA CGM through 2027, with major teams showing interest and an alleged Macron phone call reported but unverified.
