- Tadej Pogačar crashed during Stage 8 of La Vuelta and was forced to abandon the race while wearing the red leader’s jersey after being treated on site and taken to hospital.
- He was transferred by ambulance from València to Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona to be seen by specialist surgeon Xavier Mir and the hospital’s trauma team.
- Medical staff diagnosed a displaced fracture of the left clavicle, a stable C7 cervical fracture, concussion and multiple abrasions and initially kept him under observation because of the head injury.
- UAE Team Emirates confirmed on Monday that Pogačar received authorization to operate and that surgeons carried out a successful repair of the left clavicle; he will stay in hospital for a few days before starting supervised rehabilitation.
