PMD Warns of Rain, Thunderstorms and Hail in Upper Pakistan From April 16–19

Officials urge early precautions as flash‑flood and landslide risks rise.

Overview

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department, which issued its forecast Monday, expects a wet spell with heavy showers, thunderstorms and isolated hail from Thursday evening through Sunday in upper and northwestern regions.
  • A westerly wave is set to reach the northwest on April 16 and linger over the upper parts until April 19, bringing mountain snowfall along with bursts of intense rain and wind.
  • Hazard windows include flash floods and landslides from April 17 to 19 in vulnerable mountain districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit‑Baltistan and Kashmir, with places like Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Neelum Valley flagged for higher risk.
  • Storms are also forecast for Islamabad and upper Punjab with hail possible, while wind and dust are likely in upper Sindh from April 16 to 18, and PMD advises farmers to protect ripening wheat and travelers to check routes.
  • The National Disaster Management Authority issued a nationwide alert Tuesday, warning of urban flooding in low‑lying areas and damage to weak structures and crops, and directing provincial agencies to stay on high alert.
