PMD Warns of Prolonged Dense Fog as PIA Alters Flights Across Punjab

Low visibility is expected to persist this week, with a weekend system likely to deliver rain and mountain snowfall in the north and west.

Overview

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department says moderate to dense fog and smog will persist across Punjab, upper Sindh and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through the week, reducing visibility.
  • PIA reported disruptions to domestic and international services at Lahore, Multan, Sialkot and Faisalabad and announced temporary schedule adjustments, urging passengers to check flight status.
  • Cold, dry conditions continue nationwide, with very cold weather in hilly areas and partly cloudy skies in several regions.
  • Recent lows included about 4°C in Islamabad and 7°C in Rawalpindi, with Leh at −5°C and Skardu among stations below freezing, reflecting the ongoing cold spell.
  • A western disturbance is forecast to bring intermittent rain and snowfall over the hills from December 19–23 across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while smog and fog linger in central and southern Punjab and upper Sindh.
