PMD Issues 24-Hour Forecast of Widespread Hot, Dry Weather Across Pakistan

Very high daytime heat in plains and central districts may strain vulnerable communities, with isolated thunderstorms forecast for northern highlands, gusty coastal winds likely to raise dust hazards.

Overview

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department says mainly hot and dry weather will prevail nationwide over the next 24 hours, with very hot conditions expected in lowland plains and central districts.
  • Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas may see isolated afternoon rain, wind and thunderstorms that could bring short-lived heavy rain, strong gusts and lightning.
  • Punjab will remain largely hot and dry but Murree, the Galiyat region and districts around Jhelum, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Narowal face a chance of isolated afternoon storms.
  • Coastal districts of Sindh and Balochistan are forecast to experience dust-raising gusty winds that could reduce visibility and disrupt road and sea transport locally.
  • The short-term bulletin is intended to guide public preparedness and local services such as health, transport and agriculture to manage heat stress and localized storm or dust hazards.
