Overview
- The brown-and-white pit bull, which eluded officers since Saturday, was spotted Tuesday at Fairgrounds Park and was captured after it charged police and was shot.
- Police say the pit bull and two Cane Corsos attacked a runner around 6:30 a.m. Saturday near Ann Arbor Trail and Canton Center Road, leaving the man in intensive care but stable.
- An arriving officer fired three rounds when the dogs blocked access to the victim, which caused the animals to run from the scene.
- Officers later secured one Cane Corso near an elementary school for quarantine and found a second injured Cane Corso five blocks away that was euthanized for public safety.
- Investigators identified the owner and reported cooperation, and they notified the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office as they examine how the dogs slipped from a contained area and were reportedly loose the day before.
