Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend Brings Rolling Street Closures and No-Parking Enforcement

Organizers urge residents to plan routes early to avoid towing and delays.

Overview

  • The first shutdown, set for Friday at noon on Boulevard of the Allies between Wood and Stanwix, will stay in place through the end of race weekend.
  • Race staff will tow cars from course routes starting Saturday at 6:30 a.m., with no parking on the 5K route in the North Side and Downtown and a full-course no-parking rule from 10 p.m. Saturday.
  • Marathon-day closures begin around 1:45 a.m. Sunday and reopen in stages after runners pass, with most streets back by mid-afternoon and the finish-line stretch opening closer to early evening, according to P3R.
  • The 26.2-mile race starts Downtown with handcycles at 6:50 a.m. and elites at 7:00 a.m., the BACK Half begins in Shadyside at 9:00 a.m., and organizers expect about 52,000 participants across the weekend.
  • Officials recommend the ParkPGH app for garage capacity and PRT channels for detours, as Point State Park turns over from NFL Draft activities to the finish festival and a Sunday Pirates game adds to traffic on the North Shore.
