Overview
- The shooting, which took place on October 9, happened as a father drove out of his Pinetown home with his two children and a white vehicle blocked his way.
- Dash‑cam video that surfaced on October 22 shows the driver returning fire from his seat and has been shared with road‑safety groups and security firms.
- Pinetown police confirmed one suspected attacker was fatally wounded and have opened investigations for attempted murder, attempted carjacking and an inquest.
- Some later media reports said two other suspects may have died after fleeing but those additional fatalities remain unverified by police.
- Commentators have linked the case to rising hijackings and the spread of stolen firearms in South Africa, and security officials have framed the father's actions as self‑defence while legal scrutiny continues.
