Pilot Named in Littleborough Plane Crash as Police Hunt Missing Parachute Device

Police warn the public not to handle the missing red propellant device from the aircraft’s parachute system.

  • Two men were pronounced dead after a Cirrus light aircraft crashed into farmland near Littleborough, Rochdale, late on the morning of February 3.
  • One victim was identified as Arian Abbasi, 36, from Harrow, whose family said he was due to start a commercial airline job on February 23.
  • Flight data showed the aircraft departed Birmingham Airport around 10 a.m., with its signal last recorded at 10:38 a.m., and there were no injuries reported on the ground.
  • A yellow parachute canopy was seen snagged on a pylon and police are searching for a separated propellant device described as about 10 cm in diameter and 30 cm long with a red anodised finish.
  • The AAIB has opened an investigation into the crash, and the plane has been reported as operated by Daedalus Aviation, a Birmingham-based training provider.
