Overview
- Growth was broad-based, with 34 of the 56 tracked destinations posting double-digit gains and 15 recording increases above 25%, spanning hubs like Varanasi, Ayodhya, Puri, Amritsar and Tirupati as well as newer sites such as Khatushyam Ji, Omkareshwar and Thiruchendur.
- Booking behavior skewed late and short, with more than 63% of trips reserved within a week of travel and 53% of stays limited to a single night, while stays of four nights or more represented under 5% of bookings.
- Group travel featured prominently, accounting for about 47% of pilgrimage trips compared with 38.9% at leisure destinations.
- Premium demand climbed despite budgets dominating overall volume, with bookings in the ₹7,000–10,000 range up 24% and those above ₹10,000 rising 23%.
- Accommodation supply has scaled rapidly, with over a third of inventory added in three years and 63% of upscale rooms launched in that period, and MakeMyTrip’s chief executive also cites stronger connectivity as a key tailwind.
