Phone Geo-Location, Video Call Lead Rescue of German Hiker After Night in Dolomites Cold

Coordinates from her phone led crews back out at first light after a night search paused for safety.

  • A multi-agency search began at 21:40 with 105 personnel, including firefighters, mountain rescue teams and K9 units, before pausing at 02:30 due to darkness.
  • Around 9 a.m., her phone was located and incident commander Anton Mussner reached her by video, confirming she was in forested terrain.
  • Rescuers found her between the Juac and Stevia huts after she spent the night under small fir trees in temperatures near minus 10 to minus 11 degrees Celsius.
  • She was treated for mild hypothermia and reported in good condition, and authorities closed the operation after her recovery.
