- The Phillies announced Saturday that they acquired outfielder Kameron Misner from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations and immediately optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
- To clear a 40-man roster spot for Misner the club designated outfielder Steward Berroa for assignment, which exposes Berroa to waivers, trade or outright assignment.
- Misner has been a strong Triple-A performer this season, posting a .941 OPS with 14 home runs and 14 steals in 63 Triple-A games while producing just a .206 batting average and five homers across 97 major-league games.
- Interim manager Don Mattingly described Misner as a big, left-handed, athletic outfielder who can run, play all three outfield spots and supply power, but said most of his success so far has come in Triple-A rather than the majors.
- The move was part of a flurry of roster changes before Saturday’s game that also included selecting right-hander Brian Keller’s contract for his MLB debut, recalling left-hander Kyle Backhus, and optioning Max Lazar and Alex McFarlane to Triple-A to clear active-roster spots.
