Philippine Airlines Commits to Up to 20 Boeing 787‑10s at Farnborough

The package, paired with a GE engine deal and a separate Airbus A350 MoU, signals a fleet renewal that begins deliveries in the early 2030s, with contracts still to be finalised.

Overview

  • Philippine Airlines announced at the Farnborough Airshow that it committed to 15 firm Boeing 787‑10 Dreamliners with purchase rights for five more, a memorandum that was publicly signed on Monday, July 20.
  • The carrier formalised an agreement with GE Aerospace to supply GEnx‑1B engines to power the incoming 787‑10s in a ceremony held during the airshow.
  • PAL also signed a separate Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for nine A350‑1000s with rights for five additional jets, with those A350 deliveries scheduled in the mid‑2030s.
  • All of the airframe agreements announced at Farnborough are MoUs or commitments that still require final contracts and carry long lead times, with the 787‑10s expected to arrive between 2031 and 2034.
  • The moves — PAL’s largest widebody package and its first Boeing order since 2007 — set up a mixed Boeing‑Airbus widebody fleet intended to boost long‑haul and transpacific capacity while cutting fuel use and improving passenger comfort.
