Overview
- A 29-year-old woman, Talyia Bernice Nesmith, was struck and killed after exiting a rideshare on the 7200 block of Elmwood Avenue, with police locating the crash scene just before 3:30 a.m. on Monday, July 27.
- Investigators say a black Dodge SRT or Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit Nesmith, then struck at least one legally parked, unoccupied car before fleeing the scene without stopping.
- Emergency crews transported Nesmith to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:05 a.m.
- The Philadelphia Police Crash Investigation Division released surveillance video and stock photos that they say match a 2020–2023 Dodge Charger Hellcat or Scat Pack Widebody and are asking anyone with information to call 215-685-3180 or the anonymous tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
- Nesmith’s family has made public pleas for justice as police continue to comb evidence and seek witnesses, a development that could lead to more neighborhood tips and a wider public search for the unidentified driver.
