Philadelphia Sets Sunday St. Patrick’s Day Parade Route, Closures and Security Rules

This year’s procession marks 250 years of Irish contributions to the United States.

Overview

  • The parade steps off at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, March 15, from 16th Street and JFK Boulevard, travels east along Market Street through Independence Mall to Front Street/Penn’s Landing, and is slated to conclude around 3 p.m., with grandstands at 5th and Market.
  • Street closures begin as early as 5:30 a.m. and expand by 9 to 10:30 a.m.; temporary no‑parking zones will be enforced with vehicles in posted areas subject to relocation.
  • SEPTA urges riders to use Regional Rail to Jefferson or Suburban Stations or City Hall on the Broad Street and Market‑Frankford lines, with bus routes 17, 27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 47, 48, 61, 124 and 125 detoured and PATCO riders directed via 8th/Market to the Market‑Frankford Line.
  • Security guidance includes bag searches on Regional Rail, a request to travel bag‑free, no cups or liquids on trains, and bans near the route on weapons, alcohol, fireworks, drones, laser pointers and motorized scooters.
  • Live coverage runs noon to 3 p.m. on PHILLY 57 and streams on CBS News Philadelphia, with Grand Marshal Dan Hilferty leading the parade, Jim Donovan in the Ring of Honor and Joe Holden hosting.
