Overview
- The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the city is due to pay ESM Productions about $15.5 million to produce One Philly: Unity Concert for America, a larger, city-run July 4 event with a star-studded lineup.
- Mayor Cherelle L. Parker defended the decision and the bigger production, saying the stage was moved and scaled to accommodate an estimated 300,000 attendees and that officials will publish a post-event fiscal impact report.
- Major road closures around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway began on June 30 and extend through the holiday weekend, with additional shutdowns on July 3–6 and a full Parkway and Kelly Drive closure during the fireworks.
- SEPTA and other transit agencies are operating special schedules and detours, with several bus routes rerouted and extra rail and late-night service planned to handle crowds from the concert and concurrent World Cup and FIFA Fan Festival events.
- City agencies have declared a heat emergency and deployed layered safety measures, including hundreds of officers, medical tents, misting stations, 40 cooling centers and outreach teams to reduce heat and crowd risks for attendees.
