Philadelphia Police Arrest Sixth Suspect in 2025 Grays Ferry Mass Shooting

The sixth arrest reflects a case built on ballistic and digital evidence from a chaotic block-party shooting.

Overview

  • Zaki Harrell, who police said Thursday was taken into custody without incident by the Homicide Fugitive Squad at a South Beechwood Street home, faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy and firearms violations.
  • The case stems from a July 7, 2025 block-party shooting on South Etting Street where investigators recovered more than 140 shell casings and linked gunfire to about 13 different weapons.
  • Police said at least 15 people opened fire after a loud pop startled the crowd, and three people were killed that night: Zahir Wylie, Jason Reese and Azir Harris.
  • A 19-year-old wounded in the attack died in March, and the medical examiner has not yet ruled on whether that death was caused by the shooting.
  • Five others have been charged, with a judge in January holding the most serious counts for trial for four defendants, and another man, Christopher Battle, surrendering earlier in April as prosecutors work to prove intent and any conspiracy in a scene with many shooters.
