Overview
- Rising Up opens Saturday at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and runs through August 2 in the Dorrance Galleries.
- Guest curator Paul Farber of Monument Lab brings together more than 150 works by over 50 artists with artifacts spanning roughly 2,000 years.
- The galleries track boxing’s image from ancient sculpture to works by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Kara Walker, Rashid Johnson, Hank Willis Thomas, and Glenn Ligon.
- The museum brought the city’s Rocky statue indoors for the show, while a separate cast on loan from Sylvester Stallone remains by the steps for visitors.
- The museum says that after the exhibition the indoor statue will go to the top of the steps and a Joe Frazier monument will take the base at the bottom.
