Overview

  • Philadelphia International Airport, which staged the attempt Tuesday on National Cheesesteak Day, set a Guinness World Record with 1,291 cheesesteaks lined end to end, surpassing the prior benchmark of about 500.
  • The line filled the B/C connector for more than three football fields using roughly 990 pounds of ribeye, 225 pounds of cheese, and over 1,200 foot-long rolls.
  • Guinness adjudicator Michael Empric enforced rules that required 30‑centimeter rolls, chopped beef with cheese, and continuous contact between sandwiches, deducting any trimmed fillers.
  • After certification, organizers handed out the sandwiches to TSA workers, airport staff, and travelers in line with Guinness rules that the food be eaten or donated.
  • The record served as a keystone event in PHL Food & Shops’ Cheesesteak Week that showcased airport vendors and the city’s signature sandwich.
