Overview
- Phil Healy announced her retirement from international competition Tuesday, bringing to an end a 14-year Ireland career that included 24 senior appearances and two Olympic selections.
- She set three individual Irish senior records and in 2018 became the first modern Irish woman to hold both the 100m and 200m marks and to break 23.00 for 200m, though some of those times have since been bettered.
- Healy was central to Ireland’s relay rise, running on the mixed 4x400m that reached the Tokyo Olympic final, helping win women’s 4x400m silver at the 2024 European Championships in Rome, and splitting a career-best leg as part of the national-record 3:19.90 quartet that finished fourth at Paris 2024.
- She managed Hashimoto’s disease while competing and developed through Bandon AC and junior coach Liz Coomey before a long senior partnership with coach Shane McCormack.
- Athletics Ireland praised Healy as a trailblazer and she has said she will remain involved in the sport, a move that could help sustain Ireland’s recent sprint and relay momentum and inspire younger athletes.
