PGA Tour Cancels The Sentry for 2026 as Sony Open Becomes Season Opener

Drought damage at Kapalua left the course unfit, making relocation impossible due to logistics.

Overview

  • The Tour said alternate sites in Hawaii and beyond proved unworkable because of shipping deadlines, tournament infrastructure and vendor support limitations.
  • The Sony Open at Waialae will now launch the 2026 season from January 15–18, the latest calendar-year start since the Tour’s 1969 formation.
  • Winners from 2025 who would have been in The Sentry only via that victory will be added to the RBC Heritage field at Harbour Town on April 16–19.
  • Kapalua announced a November 10 soft re-opening of the Plantation Course with two greens still under restoration following severe irrigation restrictions.
  • Sentry affirmed a long-term partnership even as lawsuits and regulatory actions over Kapalua’s water system leave the tournament’s return to Maui uncertain.
