PFL Faults ESPN After Charlotte Broadcast Failures, CEO Calls Channel Moves 'Maddening'

Repeated channel switches and app blackouts have prompted PFL to weigh new distributors ahead of its contract expiring at the end of 2026.

PFL Charlotte suffered streaming and channel-routing failures on ESPN and ESPN+ that left many viewers unable to find the main card and caused feed interruptions during the start of the show.
PFL CEO John Martin said the practice of moving the broadcast across ESPN channels was "maddening," and confirmed the promotion rearranged fights mid-event to cope with the channel switches.
Martin and PFL executives say the problems follow a drop in promotional support after ESPN struck an output deal with Jake Paul’s MVPW earlier in 2026 and after ESPN placed some PFL events behind a premium paywall.
With the ESPN output deal set to expire at the end of 2026, PFL has publicly signaled it is open to other partners and is reported to be holding talks with Netflix and Fox.
Despite the broadcast failures, PFL drew a strong live gate in Charlotte, and industry memories of past ESPN streaming collapses that helped push UFC to Paramount+ suggest distribution reliability could drive the league’s next rights decision.
