Petitions Mount to Spare Curtis After Prosecutor Seeks Euthanasia

The court will rule on June 11 after the Soissons prosecutor sought the dog's euthanasia during Christophe Ellul's trial.

Overview

  • An online campaign on Change.org topped 30,000 signatures, with a separate mesopinions.com petition drawing about 24,000 supporters.
  • The prosecutor requested a four-year suspended sentence for Christophe Ellul and asked the court to order Curtis’s euthanasia.
  • Animal-protection groups Les amis de Sam and AVA offered to take the dog into supervised care, arguing he could be rehabilitated.
  • Curtis, now eight, has been kept in kennels since 2019, currently housed in a small box with access to a 6 m² courtyard in Haute-Garonne.
  • Investigators attributed the fatal 2019 bite wounds found on Elisa Pilarski in the forêt de Retz to Curtis, and the Soissons tribunal set June 11 for its decision.
