Peru’s Comptroller Deploys 488 Auditors to Inspect 1,166 Public Schools Before 2026 Classes

The preventive sweep aims to flag deficiencies in time for fixes before students return.

  • National launch led by Comptroller General César Aguilar at Virgen de la Puerta school in Otuzco initiated the operation across all regions.

  • In Puno, inspections cover 56 schools with 23 auditors, beginning at IEI No. 1298 “Capullitos de Cantuta” in Ccopamaya, Ácora.
  • In Piura, more than 30 auditors are reviewing a sample of 65 schools across provinces and districts at initial, primary, and secondary levels.
  • Audits assess infrastructure, furniture, maintenance, paused works, safety, basic services, technology, and management, with a post-start verification of teacher staffing, material delivery, and the school feeding program that aims to benefit over 208,000 students.
