Peru’s Banking Regulator Clears Revolut and Kori for Organizational Stage

The move signals a regulator push to speed licensing, boosting competition in Peru’s financial sector.

Overview

  • SBS, which announced the approvals Tuesday, granted organizational authorization to Revolut Bank Perú and Kori Financiera.
  • Both entities must complete regulatory requirements and then obtain an operating license before they can serve customers.
  • Revolut plans a U.K.-based, digital-only bank in Peru and, according to a source, will request the required audit next toward a possible full license in early 2027.
  • Kori will focus on lending to micro and small businesses through individual and group credit products, aiming to widen access to financing.
  • To accelerate market entry and foster competition, the SBS created a dedicated Organization of Companies unit and has issued similar approvals since October 2024 to players such as Prex Perú and BTG Pactual.
