Overview
- Perupetro, which signed the license Friday after an April 28 decree cleared the way, granted SPT Energy’s local unit a 30-year contract to bring Lote VI back on line with about US$300 million planned in the first decade.
- The first 10 years require 120 well reworks, 323 development wells, and 40 exploratory wells to lift production and probe for new reserves in the Talara basin.
- Perupetro projects about 22.8 million barrels of oil and 42.5 trillion cubic feet of gas could be developed over the life of the contract.
- Operations at Lote VI had been halted since October 2025 when Petroperú’s temporary contract lapsed, cutting roughly 1,358 barrels per day and costing jobs in Piura.
- A separate risk looms at offshore Lote Z-69, which could stop from May 15 as Petroperú’s temporary deal expires without an extension, endangering about 3,500 barrels per day and roughly 195 direct and 1,200 indirect jobs, according to union and industry sources.
