Peru Sets 1.63 Million-Tonne Anchoveta Quota for North-Central Second 2025 Season

Science-based findings from IMARPE surveys guided the final catch limit to support sustainable management.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Production fixed the total allowable catch at 1,630,000 tonnes through Ministerial Resolution No. 00368-2025-PRODUCE.
  • Minister César Quispe Luján said an initial 500,000-tonne provisional limit allowed the season to begin while scientific verification was completed.
  • IMARPE’s Operación EUREKA LXXVII, conducted November 4–6 from Talara southward, reported neutral environmental conditions and adequate stock distribution.
  • The quota applies to anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) on the north-central coast.
  • PRODUCE announced continuous monitoring and enforcement to ensure regulatory compliance and avoid overexploitation in a key fishmeal and fish oil fishery.
