Peru Projects 936,000 Domestic Trips and US$130 Million From San Pedro y San Pablo Holiday

Mincetur says short, self-planned trips mainly from Lima will concentrate spending on lodging, transport and local shops, signaling a near-term boost for regional economies.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) projected about 936,000 domestic travelers for the June 27–29 San Pedro y San Pablo long weekend and estimated the trip-related economic movement at roughly US$130 million.
  • Mincetur expects an average spend of S/480 per traveler and an average stay of nearly three nights, figures that underpin the projected revenue for hotels, restaurants, transport operators and local commerce.
  • Lima is forecast to supply around 42% of outbound travelers, with most trips short and aimed at coastal and central highland destinations that are close to the capital.
  • Travel behavior is expected to favor land transport, representing about 85% of movements by interprovincial buses and private cars, and accommodation skewed toward staying with family or friends at roughly 60%.
  • The ministry also reported that about 95% of trips would be organized independently using digital tools, a pattern that shifts spending toward informal hosts and small local providers even as it creates demand for formal tourism services.
