Peru Issues Consumer Alert as Perufarma Recalls Metformin Lot Over Foreign Particle

Regulators report no injuries to date, with oversight of the recall now underway.

  • The action followed a consumer report of a foreign particle in a single tablet from a blister purchased at a Lima pharmacy.
  • As a precaution, the company also withdrew all PF Genéricos products from the market and notified Digemid of the measures taken.
  • Indecopi issued a consumer alert advising users to stop using suspect products, contact Perufarma for returns, and report adverse events through Digemid’s NotiMed system.
  • Indecopi and Digemid will supervise compliance with recall procedures, the health minister said no harm has been reported so far, and diabetes specialists urged a thorough probe of generic drug oversight.
