Overview
- The Interior Ministry annulled the process to buy a multipurpose aircraft for the National Police, saying the review found issues in a procedure initiated under a previous administration.
- Officials emphasized that no contract was signed and no public funds were committed before the decision to nullify the process.
- The case was referred to the Comptroller General and the ministry’s Integrity Office, with notifications sent to the Disciplinary Secretariat, the Institutional Control Office, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
- The move followed public complaints about the aircraft’s origin, model and year, including allegations that the UAE-based supplier, Aeroexpress, presented the plane as new despite indications the model was only produced in Ukraine and ended in 2014.
- Authorities said any future procurement for the police will be considered only if it fully complies with legal requirements and operational needs.
